Tranquil French Cove Bespoke Commission

Picture 11_edited_edited.jpg

This Commission brief was to recreate the stunning seascape of a peaceful cove situated in the South of France. The client wanted to gift it to her husband to evoke the joyful memories of past times spent here.

To meet the needs of the client I produced a small Commission of this scene which instilled her confidence in my style and ability to create exactly what she wanted.

This final piece is vivid and strong, capturing viewers complete attention. The water is bold and bright holding movement and reflection. I built this up using variations of brush marks and paint brush sizes, starting with a fat brush and finishing with the smallest of brushes to add the flecks of light up on the surface. The rocks and cliffs are vibrant and powerful, forming the main structure of the painting. For this part I blended the paint in many areas to portray this softer rock, whilst also placing clear brush marks to form shadow and definition. The trees and greenery balance the composition, Enticing the viewer to look deeper into the painting. I painted this section using both hard and soft marks to replicate the texture the leaves and grass whilst capturing the light and shadow from the glorious summertime glow.

This canvas was bespoke for the client and handmade for their specifications. The painting continues around the sides of the canvas so if the client chooses to leave the sides exposed, the painting is viewable from every angle.

This paintings final resting place is in the clients family kitchen, acting as a striking piece of art to fill the space with memories of happiness and beauty.

What were the reasons for looking for a commission?

I was looking for a birthday present for my husband who is very hard to shop for. I thought a commissioned painting of our favourite cove in France would be a wonderful gift. It would also be a perfect statement piece for our kitchen that brings more warmth and happiness to the space, something we have been looking for.

How did Alex Art help you to take your vision to real life?

I started looking online and found Alex’s art samples on Etsy and I really like her style of painting.  Alex was great at communicating and we had several calls and conversations where I explained what I wanted, sent reference photos, and discussed specific details about the painting. To help me understand and give me confidence that Alex could produce exactly what I wanted, she completed a smaller painting of the same scene first. This was really helpful and gave me a great idea of what the larger piece would look like.

What stood out for you about Alex’s service and / or what were the benefits?

I've never commissioned anything before and Alex made it very easy to do that by providing examples of previous commissions and paintings, as many discussions as needed to get the perfect painting, and the smaller study. Each part of the process enabled me to have complete belief in Alex and that she would create a wonderful painting.
