Painting this piece was a challenging process. To capture such an expression on a wild animals face is technically difficult. I absolutely loved this process and over the many hours spent painting, the piece slowly emerged.

The most important part of the painting is making it look alive and full of movement. The Tiger is a powerful creature, and I needed to get that into the piece.

Using thick brush marks and leaving them exposed fills the painting with expression. I work onto a bright orange background using the fattest brush and as I placed the tones, colours and washes down the brushes I used reduced in size.

As we all know, Tigers are endangered.
I am very passionate about animal welfare and think it is important people try and understand how they are impacting these animals.

- The vocal repertoire of tigers is vast - they grunt, growl, roar, moan, snarl, chuff, hiss and gasp. It's thought that each vocalisation is used to communicate different things. (wwf.org.uk)

- Habitat loss, human conflict, and climate change have been attributed to a severe decrease in tigers’ natural habitat range, and therefore the decrease in number of Tigers. (thehomeschoolscientist.com)

- Poaching is a huge problem and massively contributes to the low numbers of the species.
